Knowledge exchange between current, future, and aspiring members is one objective of CESSDA Strengthening and widening the European infrastructure for social science data archives (SaW). By offering the necessary administrative, technical, and methodological support, the project promotes the establishment of new data archives and strengthens existing ones. Providing knowledge sharing through hands-on practitioner and community training is an efficient instrument to promote knowledge transfer – both among current CESSDA members and between members and non-member ERA archives working towards building services in line with CESSDA AS quality standards.

As part of trainings for data archive practitioners our tutorials provide guidance on data INGEST and DISSEMINATION practices. We start by giving a short overview on the OAIS model to explain the most relevant terms. The tutorials are designed for an advanced target audience involved in data archiving and also offer basic introductions for beginners. The section OVERALL INFORMATION includes training materials and examples on general practices.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn about the concepts of OAIS, pre-ingest, ingest, archiving conditions, metadata, access to data and dissemination of data
  • Identify key resources and tools that can help you strengthen the archive

The Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA) is a pan-European research infrastructure. It brings together social science data archives, with the aim of promoting the results of social science research and supporting national and international research and cooperation.

The CESSDA SaW project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement number 674939.
