Summary

18th European DDI User Conference (30 November - 4 December 2026) EDDI is the annual conference for users of DDI, a suite of metadata specifications for the social, economic, and behavioral sciences. EDDI meets once a year in the first week December, bringing together users of DDI from archives, studies, official statistics, commercial organisations, government, non-governmental organisations and more.

The 18th Annual European DDI Users Conference (EDDI 2026) is being hosted by the Social Sciences and Digital Humanities Archive (SODHA) together with the State Archives of Belgium and the Brussels Institute for Social and Political Science (BSPO, Vrije Universiteit) in Brussels, Belgium. from Monday 30 November to Friday 4 December 2026 as an in-person event:

  • Tutorials and Workshops: Monday 30 November 2026
  • Conference: Tuesday 1 December - Wednesday 2 December 2026
  • Side Meetings / Hackathon: Thursday 3 - Friday 4 December 2026

DDI

The Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) is an international standard for describing the data produced by surveys and other observational methods in the social, behavioral, economic, and health sciences.

Conference Purpose

The meeting will bring together DDI users and professionals from all over Europe and the world. Anyone interested in developing, applying, critiquing or using DDI is invited to attend and present.

We are seeking proposals on all aspects of DDI:

  • Case Studies
  • Mature implementations
  • Early Implementations
  • Interplay of DDI with other standards or technologies
  • Projects in early phases in which DDI is under consideration
  • Critiques of DDI
  • Community building activities

Proposed topics of the conference

We expect that many presentations will cross over between topic areas but that should not discourage proposals. Please also note that the possible topics are not exclusive to those listed:
