Slovenia as regional partner in RDA
Wed 7 May 2025

Slovenia has recently become a regional partner of the Research Data Alliance (RDA), represented by CESSDA’s Service Provider Social Science Data Archives (ADP) at the University of Ljubljana.

ADP has been coordinating the Slovenian Research Data Alliance Node since its establishment in 2019 as part of the RDA Europe 4.0 project. The node serves as an important link between the global RDA community and Slovenian open science stakeholders. Slovenia now has a seat on the RDA Regional Advisory Board.

The main goal of the Slovenian node is to support the data-related objectives of the National Action Plan for Open Science by leveraging RDA’s global resources, expertise and collaborative networks. This regional partnership increases the visibility of Slovenia in international open science efforts and promotes a stronger engagement of the national community in RDA activities.

ADP is leading the national coordination efforts, which are guided by global best practices for data sharing and management. The node focuses on the following key areas:
•    Development of an open science infrastructure,
•    Data sharing guidelines for scientific publications,
•    Promotion of trusted data repositories.

In December 2024, ADP organized a national workshop with Slovenian and international experts to discuss the development of a robust national open science infrastructure. The coordination team has since produced a detailed report listing relevant RDA groups, resources and recommendations that can support the implementation of the Slovenian action plan.

In addition, the team has initiated a collaboration with scientific publishers to address the new data sharing obligations in scholarly journals.
