First steps towards a future Social Sciences and Humanities Competence Centre
CESSDA ERIC, along with other ERICs and Service Providers, have begun the work on creating a SSH Competence Centre.
The three Social Sciences and Humanities research infrastructures - CLARIN, DARIAH, and CESSDA, along with CESSDA Service Providers ADP and DANS, met at Utrecht University to chart the next phase of a future Social Sciences and Humanities Competence Centre (SSHO CC).
The gathering took place under the umbrella of the SSH Open Cluster’s participation in the Horizon Europe OSCARS Project.
The €25 million funded OSCARS initiative supports the establishment of community-based Competence Centres across five European Science Clusters, dedicated to promoting FAIR and open science practices.
Over the two days, participants focused on priorities to create a CC that provides and shares knowledge and skills across all partners in the network. A prerequisite is the technical and political alignment between Social Sciences and Humanities ERICs, and the optimisation of resources to set up a future SSHOC CC.
Other topics discussed were the needs of different audiences, the strengthening of the SSH Open Marketplace, the potential of AI for a better take up of information and sustainability, and long-term commitment by the ERICs.
The meeting concluded with a roadmap towards an SSH competence center to share knowledge among the rich and diverse SSH communities supporting open data, interoperability, and cross-domain collaboration among the communities and beyond.
