Positioning CESSDA for the AI era: Strategy Addendum published
Tue 28 Jul 2026

Artificial intelligence, machine-actionable data, and an evolving European research landscape are reshaping how research data are created, discovered, shared, and reused. To ensure that CESSDA ERIC remains at the forefront of these developments, CESSDA has published a Strategy Addendum that updates its strategic priorities through 2029.

The Addendum is the result of a consultation process across the CESSDA community and was approved by the General Assembly, to ensure continuity while updating its strategic priorities for a rapidly changing research environment.

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the publication of the CESSDA Strategy Addendum 2027-2029.

Since the launch of CESSDA’s 2023-2027 Strategy, the research landscape has evolved rapidly. Artificial intelligence is transforming how researchers interact with data, while growing attention to research security and responsible data sharing is reshaping expectations for research infrastructures.

The Strategy Addendum builds on the strong foundations of CESSDA’s current strategy while sharpening its focus for the years ahead. It sets out how CESSDA will strengthen data discovery and interoperability, support the transition towards machine-actionable and AI-ready data, build new skills and competencies across Service Providers and research communities, and deepen collaboration with European and international partners.

These priorities will help ensure that CESSDA remains a trusted research infrastructure – to provide high-quality data services, enable evidence-based research to support policymaking, and contribute to a more connected and resilient European Research Area.

By extending CESSDA’s strategic period to 2029, we are providing continuity for our community while remaining agile in responding to emerging technological and geopolitical developments.

I look forward to working closely with Service Providers, partners, and users as we shape the next chapter of CESSDA's development.
