CESSDA highlights its impact across data, people, and landscape in 2025
A new brief, “Impact in 2025”, highlights how CESSDA’s network of social science data archives is strengthening data reuse, building research and data capacity, and supporting evidence-based policy across Europe and beyond.
In 2025, CESSDA’s 22 Service Providers supported the preservation, curation, and reuse of 46,000 primary digital objects (including datasets). All datasets were viewed or downloaded 793,000 times. CESSDA resources were used in 842,000 publications, of which an estimated 40% were peer-reviewed. The network also reached 14,000 participants through 558 training activities and recorded 9.9 million website visits.
The brief also highlights CESSDA’s progress since 2020. This includes a 49% increase in primary digital objects stored, a 334% increase in datasets delivered, and a 169% increase in publications that used CESSDA resources. Outreach and training activities have also expanded substantially, alongside continued and modest growth in CESSDA’s human resources and national investment.
“Access to high-quality data is fundamental to addressing societal challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Dr. Bonnie Wolff-Boenisch, CESSDA Director. Through examples from across the CESSDA community, the brief shows how social science data are being reused for research, education, public engagement, and policy.
